SUNSET PILATES TO CELEBRATE 15 YEARS

SUNSET PILATES TO CELEBRATE 15 YEARS

In the 15 years since Alyson Limehouse started Sunset Pilates, there have been a few roadblocks that could have derailed her business.

Like the construction of the Flagler Memorial Bridge, which was blocked on-and-off for five years, and the 2008 recession that derailed many small businesses across the county.

Instead, is the longest-running Pilates studio on Palm Beach. It will celebrate its anniversary with champagne and live music from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Sunset Building, 223 Sunset Ave.

Limehouse moved to Palm Beach County from Charleston, S.C., to take a job as a Pilates trainer at a now-defunct business on the island, but she quickly realized her ideals didn’t line up with theirs. All her goals revolved around people — helping them achieve their goals and prevent them from having to go through pain or surgeries later in life.

“I was determined to make it,” she said. “I knew I had something to offer this area that no one else could.”

Pilates is similar to yoga in that it’s designed around stretching, but it uses equipment and focuses more on core strength and posture.
